Alessa is from Singapore, Chris is from Ohio
Chris loves Singapore and “teh-ping” so much he wanted to serve it to all his guests at the wedding much to the despair of Alessa.

Chris and Alessa asked me if I could help them compile some of the greetings that their friends from all over the world were going to send because some of them couldn’t be at their wedding in Singapore and I agreed.
After compiling the videos, it made me feel like I’ve known Chris and Alessa for years. Watch it and you would know what I mean. You would get a pretty rough idea of who they are. I had much laughs editing it and watching it through.

They had their wedding at Capella, and had a special guest – the peacock

I’m trying very hard to put down the feelings and details that happened in the wedding, but there’s really too much details and too much intricate feelings and emotions that I can’t seem to put in words.

I hope you would be able to feel all those when watching the video!

We took a day, went to a few locations, had brunch at riders cafe, in the process, took a few images for their casual photo-shoot as well as their montage

Wendy and Shawn’s actual day was a luncheon, and had their solemnization just before their luncheon. It was a mad rush for me, but I managed to include that into their highlights

Merry christmas everyone!

Nick and his brothers were really good dancers I must say. From korean dance to mambo, nothing was too difficult for them

The MC for their solemnization reminded the guests (except the groom!) to put their phones on silent mode. Guess what, his phone started ringing just when he started with his vows. Both Nick and Pauline did not prepare any vows and decided to give an impromptu one on that day. What they promised each other was really heartfelt and sincere.

Like what Nick had to do – get 99 likes for his status, I hope we can get as many likes for their video!

Amos was shooting stills, so I’ll leave the official photos to him. Here’s when they were screening the SDE at the lunch and them watching it from outside.

Diana kept every single letter, every single present, she even kept the box that contained the letters and presents given to her by Krist. Everything that you see in the video is real. None of it was a prop or re-created. We went back the places that the events happened, the restaurant, the colonial house, the place where they took their walks. Even the clues that were used for the treasure hunt were the original clues

We had long discussions about what we should do, the concept, interviews? re-enactment?
We finally decided to keep everything as real as possible. Putting in real events that were significant to them
I really had fun going around with them, having lunches, shot them while they were really talking with each other, laughing and enjoying each other’s company

To Krist and Diana: 害羞的笑.. I think can qualify for 金马奖 already.. haha

Background story and behind the scenes:
- The presents in the box are all items that Diana likes
e.g unscented candles (Krist handmade candles but made scented ones)

- Krist wrote in his last letter that if Diana was interested to work things out, he would be waiting for her at Jaan, 730pm
on the day of shoot, we only had the time-slot from 630pm to 7pm. We were at Sentosa cove (our previous shoot location) chilling out, waiting for time to pass. We decided to leave only at about 615pm, totally forgetting that there would be a jam. We only reached Jaan at 650pm leaving me with only 5-10 mins of shooting time. I’m glad I got all the shots required. We still laugh at that incident thinking back

- Krist loves to hold Diana’s hand while driving.
It’s not because of the shoot that he did that. I can vouch for that because when I’m in the car with them, even when I’m not shooting, he does it

- On the day that we were going to the colonial house, the house that they wanted to rent at first, Diana lamented that it would have been nice if we had a raining scene in the car which would give a variety of shots and feel to the video
10 mins after she said that, it started to rain. Even when we reached the location and wanted to shoot, it was still raining. We had to go off for lunch first before coming back to shoot

- Treasure hunt
I got Krist to plant the clues so that Diana would really be looking for them instead of acting that she is
Diana really couldn’t find some of the clues (which Krist correctly predicted)

Here’s the pre-wedding video

We had a 5 hour dinner and ice-cream during our meet-up before their wedding, just talking about anything and everything. From how much they love Singapore, how automated our toilets in Singapore are, to Oprah, to Steve Jobs, to Christianity, to food photography, and much more (I didn’t know how much we covered until I’m sitting down to write this)

Both Adrian and Angela are always smiling, from the first time I met them to their wedding day. I’ve not seen them without a smile on their face all the time. Angela especially was all smiles during their wedding because her mum made it for the wedding. Her mum was hospitalized days before and it was indeed a miracle that we were all praying and believing for to happen.

I knew how much they really loved Singapore and so I started their SDE with the sunrise view from Adrian’s place of Marina. They started their day a bit later than normal, so I had time to go over to Adrian’s place to cover him getting ready first before heading over to Angela’s

To Adrian and Angela, I didn’t wait 5 seconds to post this, I waited 5 days.. haha
And yes, part of this was typed on my blackberry

I received this SMS from Angela a day after their wedding
“Thank you so much for all your hardwork filming our wedding yesterday Shann. We had the perfect wedding day (thanks to my mum’s miracle, thank you again for your prayers) and we just watched your highlights video, and we LOVE IT!!!! Many of our weddings guests who saw the video before our first march in also said you did such a fantastic job (and a lot of them asked how we found you)!! You are a creative genius and we love your style of working – you were completely unobtrusive during the day yet managed to capture all the key moments. Adrian said you were like a ninja – so stealthy!! I’m so grateful that we found you – I honestly could not have asked for a better videographer. Thank you so much again and looking forward to catching up with you again soon! Love, Angela”

Receiving such SMSes really makes my day, knowing that I have done something that means something to the couple, and of course making new friends
Thanks to Adrian and Angela, I got to know Jessica their wedding planner, and got to know Eng Seng and Sharon
The world is getting smaller.. haha

Here’s the SDE

Conversations were very important to them and so that was what I mainly focused on. This edit has got to have the most audio of people talking I have done. It was just as well since I got my hands on the Rhode video zoom mic which I got to use at Eng Seng and Sharon’s wedding

This wedding was filled with laughter and song. The gate-crashing games were full of song. Even their relatives got involved in guessing the titles of the songs.
I overheard Eng Seng wondering why he had so many ang pao’s in his pocket at the hotel lobby and realised the Jie Mei’s didn’t collect their ang pao. I managed to put in a part of the Jie Mei’s reaction when Sharon told them about it.

They had their tea-ceremony before their solemnization in their hotel and so they managed to have a sneak preview of the express highlights. Here’s a screenshot of Eng Seng having a preview

For Danny and Elly, both are from different countries and background. Danny is a true Singapore boy and Elly is from Indonesia; both met in Australia.

I received a call one day from an old classmate of my university days and she told me that her brother is getting married. I got hold of his email, few exchanges later and we met in Singapore during his transit in town. He went through my portfolio and signed on the dotted line of the contract. That was how smooth everything went.

The actual day was full of family warmth where Elly’s family flew in from Indonesia. It was a first for me to witness parents playing an active role in attending to their daughters gown, helping out with the jewellery and even the shoes. It was a sight for us as photographer to capture such tender and priceless moments.

And so I decided to do a little “interview” and see what I can incorporate it with after that. I wanted to use it for the full day edit but upon consideration I didn’t want to take the emphasis away from the vows

Thus, this edit where I edited it together with the in betweens of their photoshoot. I think this edit really showed who Clifford and Jacquie really are

we really had fun together and have become dear friends through this wedding – a really warm and intimate one.

It was an enquiry for the 9th of sept. I was only going to be back in Singapore on the 8th. I was pretty intriqued by the email and decided to give her a call. We discussed what was going to happen on that day, we clicked and I was excited to shoot for her wedding.

I was in Perth and so we couldn’t meet up like what I do with my other couples before their wedding to get to know them, and so we communicated over email.
An extract of her email

“Ok, some background on us…
Myself: Until very recently, i’ve always been a writer for a living and love all things literary. I also love music, but hate pop music. I like jazz, rap, bossa nova and soul. I’m an introvert, with a very strong will. I love love animals of all sorts, and and really like rabbits in particular. Clifford and I just got a bunny a month ago. This was after my last bunny died after 9 years (I had three). I’m also very free spirited, and tend to have my head in the clouds, as people always say. I also love old people, and have no affinity for children.
My family is Peranakan, but for the tea ceremony, we aren’t going to use my grandmother’s old Peranakan set coz one of the cups are broken.

Clifford is from New Zealand (but Chinese) but has been PR in Singapore for the last 8 years. He is gentle and soft spoken, and considerate. He loves sports and exercise, like many Kiwis, and is mad about rugby, again, like many Kiwis. He plays Touch Rugby very often. He loves basketball, mixed martial arts etc. He also likes writing, and is a bit of an old fashioned romantic. Not a SNAG at all. He doesn’t look it, but he’s rather traditional in his ways, which I love.

Both Clifford and I are very sporty people, and we have been practicing muaythai for the last 3 to  4 years, even before we met. We actually met exactly 2 years before, on our wedding day. That’s why we chose to get married on the 9th of Sep. We also love to travel a lot, and spent almost four months this year travelling to: Thailand for muaythai training, and 3 months in the states, as tourists.

Yes, we’ve written our own vows…I already feel nervous thinking about it coz I hate speaking in front of a crowd, even a small crowd of 9 guests. Eeks!

We’re a pretty fun loving couple, but usually in private. We’re also big romantics, but I think I’m more bashful and low key about it. Whereas Clifford is less shy.

Also, we’re nuts about food and wine”

Through our email exchanges we really got to know each other and even exchanged pictures of our bunnies.
